February Tax Deadlines for Individuals in 2026

Stay on top of your tax responsibilities this February 2026 with our comprehensive guide. We'll walk you through estimated tax payment options, essential tip reporting rules, and W-4 exemption updates.

February 2 – Estimated Tax Payments

If you missed the January 15 deadline for your last estimated tax installment, there's still an option available. You can choose to file your 2025 individual tax return (Form 1040 or 1040-SR) by February 2. Doing so and settling any taxes owed by January 31 can help you avoid penalties for late payment. If meeting the February 2 deadline isn’t feasible, ensure your return and payment are submitted by April 15.

February 10 – Reporting Tips as Income

For those who earned $20 or more in tips in January, reporting them to your employer is a must. IRS Form 4070 or another signed statement that includes your personal information and the pertinent tip details will suffice. Remember, your employer will account for FICA and income tax withholding from your usual wages based on these tips. Should your regular wages fall short for the necessary withholdings, any uncollected amounts will show up in box 8 of your W-2, and you’ll need to settle them when filing your annual return.

February 17 – Form W-4 Updates for Withholding Exemptions

If you claimed an exemption from income tax withholding last year, it's time to complete a new Form W-4 by this date to maintain your exemption status for the coming year.

Weekends & Holidays

If any due date lands on a weekend or legal holiday, the deadline extends to the next business day.

Extensions for Disaster Areas

Should your area be declared a disaster zone, filing deadlines may be extended. To get current details, please refer to the FEMA website and the IRS page for tax relief in disaster situations.
